A tech calls a customer to ask about the part or walk through troubleshooting. That used to be free labor. You clock in for the call, and the time counts toward your paycheck.
It's a small shift, but it matters. A 15-minute call with a customer isn't time you're waiting around. It's work you're getting paid for, same as the repair itself.
The shop sees the call logged too, so there's no question about what happened or how long it took.
