We run a directory for LED and digital signs. When you're looking at a sign technician's available equipment, you see the date when the software on that sign was last updated.
It matters because newer software means fewer glitches and better uptime. Old software might have known problems. You can see at a glance whether the equipment is fresh or stale. The technician knows you're looking, which pushes them to stay on top of maintenance.
It's a small transparency thing that rewards the pros who keep their equipment current.
