You shot a video on your phone and you want to upload it. Instead of your phone sending it all the way across the country to a central server, it finds the nearest server close to you and sends it there first. It's faster, it stalls less, and it uses less battery.
We also compress videos when they upload, so the file that lands on our servers is smaller than what's on your phone. That means faster uploads and less waiting around.
