Job boards are magnets for scams. Someone posts work that doesn't exist, collects application fees, vanishes. The person looking for work loses money and time. The legit employers get buried under the noise.
NPCLocal's job board now has a scam classifier. It reads every posting and flags the obvious red flags. Too good to be true pay. Requests for upfront money. Work from home with no experience needed. It catches those and explains why.
If a job gets flagged, it doesn't go live. The person posting sees why and can fix it or explain. If it's legit, it goes up. If it's a scam, it doesn't. Simple.
The honest part: no filter is perfect. But this one catches the obvious stuff. It's not about being perfect, it's about raising the bar high enough that scammers go somewhere easier.
