Rush jobs used to be messy. A customer would pay extra for speed. The tech would see the money and take the job. But sometimes the job didn't actually get done any faster, or the tech couldn't do it faster anyway. Somebody was getting paid for something that didn't happen.
Now it's clear. The customer pays for speed only if he asks for it upfront. The tech earns rush pay only if he accepts the job and finishes it in the window the customer asked for. The money is conditional. Both sides know what they're paying for.
It's more honest. Rush jobs still exist. They still pay more. But the money actually tracks whether the speed happened.
