Most websites get tested on a few standard phone sizes and call it done. We tested on the actual sizes phones use, and then we fixed what broke. The site is smaller, it scrolls less, and it doesn't push buttons off the edge.
It's the kind of thing nobody notices when it works, but you feel it when it doesn't.
