Brush, Mesquite & Pasture Spraying in Corpus Christi, TX
Subtropical Gulf Coast climate.
For brush, mesquite & pasture spraying, the service area covers roughly 100 miles from central Corpus Christi.
Common reasons to call
- Mesquite thickening up and choking out grass
- Prickly pear spreading across pasture
- Huisache exploding after a wet year
- Pasture carrying capacity dropping as brush takes over
- Regrowth coming back after old clearing work
- Want senderos and hunting lanes opened through heavy brush
- Weeds taking over improved coastal pasture
Typical work
- Individual plant treatment on mesquite and huisache
- Broadcast pasture spraying for weeds and light brush
- Prickly pear treatment programs
- Aerial application coordination on big acreage
- Mechanical work: root plowing, grubbing, raking, and shredding
- Sendero cutting and fence line clearing
- Follow-up treatment programs on regrowth
Typical turnaround
Spraying waits on the right plant condition and weather window, so jobs book into windows, not fixed dates. Mechanical work runs most of the year but stops for mud. Follow-up treatments are part of any honest plan, brush control is a program, not an event.

Common questions
Spray or dozer: which is right for my brush?
Depends on the brush, the ground, and the goal. Chemical work shines on scattered to moderate brush and keeps the grass you have. Mechanical clearing resets heavy thickets fast but costs more and disturbs the ground, which can flush a new crop of seedlings. Most successful South Texas plans mix both: clear the worst, spray the rest, and follow up. Get someone to walk the pasture before you pick a tool.
Why does mesquite keep coming back?
Mesquite regrows from buds below the ground line, so anything that only removes the top, shredding, fire, or a shallow cut, makes a multi-stem bush out of a single-stem tree. Killing it means chemical to the root or mechanical removal below those buds, done when the plant will carry the treatment down. That is why timing and method matter more than effort.
When is the right time to spray brush here?
When the target species is healthy and actively growing, and that window shifts by species and by rainfall year. Spraying drought-stressed brush largely wastes chemical. A licensed applicator reads the plants and calls the window, and a good one will tell you to wait when waiting is right.
Do I need a license to spray my own place?
Hiring it done is the licensed part: commercial applicators carry a TDA license. Landowners treating their own property have different requirements depending on the product, and some herbicides are restricted-use and require a private applicator license from TDA. Check TDA or your county AgriLife Extension office before buying restricted products.
How long before cattle can go back on a sprayed pasture?
The product label sets any grazing restrictions, and they vary by product, so there is no one answer. Your applicator gives you the label terms for what was sprayed in writing. Follow the label, it is both the law and the safe play for your cattle.
Will brush control actually grow more grass?
That is the whole point, and yes, removing brush competition frees up water and sunlight for grass. But grass response depends on rainfall and what seed or grass base is left under that brush. Heavy old thickets sometimes need reseeding after clearing. A straight-shooting contractor will tell you what response to realistically expect on your dirt.
Coastal Bend seasons
Spring (March - May)
Green-up opens spray windows for several species, and weeds in improved pasture get treated before they seed.
Summer (June - August)
Key windows for mesquite and other brush when soil moisture cooperates. Mechanical work runs hard on dry ground.
Fall (September - November)
Some species have fall windows, and mechanical clearing is pleasant work in cooling weather. Hunters want senderos opened before season.
Winter (December - February)
Dormant-season mechanical work and planning. Winter is the time to line out spring spray programs and book the applicator.
