Common questions
Can my own crew just put up rented scaffold?
OSHA requires that erecting, moving, altering, and dismantling happen under the supervision of a competent person, and that everyone who works from it be trained. Renting the material does not transfer that. Plenty of contractors do hold competent person training in house, and if yours does not, you are buying the erection along with the steel whether you meant to or not.
What does the tag on a scaffold mean?
It is the status of that scaffold at last inspection. Generally a green tag means it was inspected and is safe to use as built, a yellow tag means it can be used but with a specific restriction such as required fall protection, and a red tag means do not use. The tag has to be current, which is why scaffolds in service get re-inspected on a schedule rather than once at erection.
How high can a scaffold go before it needs an engineer?
