Common questions
Why does a tank have to be cleaned before an inspection?
Because an inspector has to see the steel. API 653 internal inspection is about measuring the floor and shell for corrosion and section loss, and none of that can be assessed through a layer of sludge. The cleaning is not preparation for the real work, it is what makes the real work possible, and a tank cleaned poorly means an inspection that has to be repeated.
What is degassing and why does it matter to the work next door?
Degassing removes the vapor left in a tank after the liquid is out.
