Common questions
How do I take care of the cape before it gets to the shop?
Keep it cool and get it in fast, that is most of the battle in our heat. Do not cut the throat or up the brisket, leave plenty of hide behind the shoulders, and if you cannot deliver it quickly, freeze the cape rolled hide-out in a bag. When in doubt, call the taxidermist from the field and do what they say. Hair slip from heat ruins more mounts than bullets do.
Why does a mount take so long?
The cape goes to a professional tannery, and that alone takes months. Then the form is ordered and fitted, the hide mounted, and everything has to dry slow before finish work. A shop juggling a whole deer season of trophies quotes accordingly. Good taxidermy is slow the way good barbecue is slow.
Shoulder mount or European mount, how do I decide?
A shoulder mount preserves the whole animal's look and presence, and costs accordingly. A European mount shows the skull and antlers clean and white, costs less, hangs anywhere, and has become hugely popular. Plenty of hunters save shoulder mounts for the true wall-hangers and do Euros on the rest.
Can you mount my redfish or trout, even if I released it?
Yes. Reproduction mounts are made from a blank matched to your measurements and photos, so a released fish can still go on the wall, and the finished piece often outlasts a skin mount in our humidity. Length, girth, and a few good photos are all the taxidermist needs.
What paperwork does the taxidermist need?
Game animals come in with the TPWD tagging and documentation the law requires, and the shop logs who brought what. It is quick when the tag is right and impossible when it is not, so keep your paperwork with the animal from the field to the shop.
Can an old mount be fixed up?
Often, yes. Sun-faded finishes, cracked noses, loose seams, and tired habitat bases can be repaired or refreshed, and a mount with sentimental value is usually worth it. Severe hair slip or bug damage can be past saving, so bring it in and get an honest look.

Intake season. Fresh capes flood in from opening weekend on, so deliver capes fast and expect quotes to reflect the backlog.
Winter (December - February)
Late-season trophies and nilgai come in while the studio grinds through the fall intake.
